How to Grow a Downline in MLM

Cultivating Leads

So how do you grow a down line in network marketing these days?  One seed at a time, is the suggestion that “Jim Jinright” gives to newbies in the business.  Growing a downline in your MLM is similar to farming, it takes patience, dedication and the right elements.  You have to be able to spot the good seeds from the bad.  To elaborate, recruiting people is a process of selection and elimination.  Similar to tending a garden, you start with picking the rights seeds.

You need to spend a majority of your time in network marketing attracting the right people to your sales funnels.  This starts with your marketing message.  What does your marketing message attract or detract?  Growing a garden is a long-term commitment, so shouldn’t your MLM business, marketing and recruiting process be the same?

Once you set up the proper marketing message for your MLM, then you will start to market online/offline or both.  Many network marketers these days are finding leverage by marketing on the internet.  Once you generate the content and disseminate it via social media, video marketing, article submission, PPC, blogs and podcast, then just add water and watch your lead generation grow.

This is where the whole harvest can yield big rewards or total devastation.  This is where your posture and select/deselect process is critically important especially if you want to recruit the right candidates into your MLM business.  Without question, you want to select high energy people.  Not the type of people that are over the top or power hungry to a fault, but rather people that have positive energy.  These are the people that utilize superlatives like “absolutely” and or they always seem to smile.  This type of person is action oriented and does not make excuses in life.  These are the people that you want to recruit into your MLM downline as they represent the “perfect seeds” for that glorious network marketing garden you’ve been cultivating.

Have fun with the process

So growing your business is sort of like being a farmer or gardener.  You need to know when you are giving too much water or not enough.  You need to tend to your fields without overdoing it.

Especially as it relates to new seeds.  Spend the necessary time with the newbies but put your attention on the more mature or developed down line in your organization, this will allow your seedlings to grow and sprout.

I see so many people involved in network marketing that smother their down line and or they try to control the process.  Growing a successful business in MLM requires that you master the skills of recruiting and developing future leaders.  So if you want to grow a down line that can generate leads for themselves then make sure you plug them into the proper training and get rid of any cry babies; these are the people that will destroy the roots of your organization.

Finding the right qualified prospects takes energy/balance and time, but it is one of the most important skills next to marketing that you will need to master.  If you simplify the concept it is leadership!  Leadership is taking responsibility for your actions and ensuring that everyone you recruit does the same or simply do not recruit them!  If you don’t want weeds in your garden, don’t recruit them!

As you know there is a plethora of companies in MLM and most of them are good companies. Some people say that being connected to a proven product that’s been in the market for a prolonged period of time is the way to go. I believe that with the advent of affiliate marketing and taking into consideration the speed by which information travels today that things are dramatically changing. With the changes brought about by the rapid growth of the internet and social media we are in what’s known as a “race to zero”, which means that people tend to migrate to the latest and greatest trend like never before.

Given the above mentioned factors one has to question the viability of building a huge down line with the goals of reaching huge residual bonuses. Therefore, if you can get involved in a MLM that has a GPT component (get paid today) this would be beneficial. The other consideration is to get into a MLM that pays you higher up front commissions or earnings because the dream of building a huge down line and reaching Nirvana residuals while realistically maintaining such is quickly fading in this world of web 2.0/social media. The most important take away for anyone looking at a MLM is that you must brand yourself and create what we call “You Inc.”, whereby what’s more important that your product or service is you. You must position as a leader and helpful resource as this will allow you to naturally attract a following of people, some of which will join you and your MLM.

All products and services need good marketing. The internet allows people to get the word out very quickly, so instead of chasing friends and family for your MLM you might consider marketing on the internet. Setting up “attraction marketing” based systems that bring qualified prospects to you instead of you chasing them is certainly the prevailing strategy in today’s market.

I hope this helps you with your business. Another resource is “Mike Dillard” whom I’m a big fan of, I have a link on my blog to some of his free videos.

To your massive success!
